Custom Game boards
Hi all:
Hey, for those of you familiar with Manoeuvre the board game you probably get frustrated with the maps that curl and tend to move around when moving the playing pieces on them. A simple and quick solution is to buy a piece of plexiglass to lay on top of the four maps. I went to a glass shop and bought a remnant piece for $5 that was actually big enough for two covers. A 13” x 13” piece should work, (the four maps together are 12”x12”). I even cut one such piece in half so it fits nicely into the game box and is easy to transport. Now, if you want a more pimped up version, you could do what I did and take an old chess board, (I bought a nice old wooden one from Value Village for $5) and convert it. I was able to take out the core playing board and cover it with green felt. I then placed it back into the chess board frame and cut one piece of plexiglass to fit on top of the whole thing. To make it easier to remove the plastic, (I have no finger nails) I glued some Risk figures, (Napoleonic themed pieces from the version with minis) onto the plastic. It’s not easy to transport but it does make a beautiful and functional home board. Here is a link at the Geek that shows the results.

That is awesome. I have not made any yet, just toying around with some ideas. If I complete one of my DIY projects, I will be sure to post here.
Thanks again.

RE: more custom boards
My wife says I have too much time on my hands but hey, I could be wasting it playing golf eh? (Disclaimer: It is not my itention to tick off those who love golf, I just personally can't stand the game).
Anyway, I got the idea to make some custom boards for the game Macao. Impractical as heck to store and transport but what the heck, that never stopped me before.

Wow James, that is awesome. Any chance we can put in parts requests for other games?

That's what she said?
I'm looking forward to the D-Day Dice board too James. That sounds like an awesome project. I'll check my house for any other little pieces that might be useful for that! I have some old miniatures and the like that might work for it!

RE: custom boards
Hi guys:
Well, first, with regards to the Macao boards, I made sure that I didn't make the holes too deep so it is relatively easy to get the cubes out, (even if you have no fingernails like me). Thanks to Ryan's idea, I also recently routered out the bottom of the boards a wee bit so they now stack a little better.
As for the custon 3d D-Day dice board I'm making, it is almost done and should be ready for the August game day. Jason, thanks for the offer, but I think I have all the stuff I need/want.
Happy Gaming!
