Dungeon Mastery class
Post Dungeon Mastery class
by Allan Dotson on Tuesday, 15.November 2011

Here is another gaming class for ages 15 and up. It's during a public school holiday. This will be less of a design class, and more about dungeon mastering.

Dungeon Mastery workshop

Learn to run the Dungeons & Dragons game for your friends. We'll focus on D&D version 3.5, with some discussion of other game systems, and skills that will help you run any role-playing game. Master the game rules to run interesting combats smoothly. Practice using the campaign-building rules to create memorable worlds, plots, and non-player characters. Design combat ...encounters, role-playing encounters, environmental challenges and puzzles. Thursday and Friday take a turn running the game for a group of younger players. Some gaming experience required. Any rulebooks, dice, game mats or miniatures you can bring will be an asset to the group.
Ages 15 +

February 20 - 24, 2012, 1- 4pm
Cost: $85
Location: Allan's house
Friday only (ages 11 +): $15
To register, phone 586-0887
Bring cash payment or mail cheque (made out to Allan Dotson) to:
2836 Regina Ave. Regina, SK, S4S 0G5
Registration deadline, including payment in full: February 1st, 2012

2012 Convention
Post 2012 Convention
by Allan Dotson on Monday, 15.August 2011

Hi,

I know it's still early, but I'm interested in helping with planning for next year's Convention, and I wonder who I should contact about that?

Specifically, I'd like to propose involving the local comics community in the Convention. In the spring of 2011, there was a small Mangapalooza event held by the Regina Public Library, and a Comics and Pop Culture Fair held by a private group of artists. I was involved in both events as a member of the Valuable Comics artists collective, and I thought both events would have benefitted by being combined with the Flatland Fantasy Con.

The Senior's Centre has a lot of space. We could have a separate room for the art market, a comic jam space where people would be free to draw, drawing workshops, the Valuable Comics group of local artists would be there signing comics, we'd get more people out in costumes, we'd just get more people.

I'm very interested in co-ordinating with the comics community, but I wanted to bring it up here first to see if that's something the Convention organizers, and the FRAG community, would want.

Help! My summer Game Design class still needs one more student to run. I you know anykids (aged 9-14) who would like making fantasy games (board, card, or role-playing), tell them that the class is next week, July 18-22, from 1-2:30 pm, and they can sign up at the City of Regina page, link below. Thanks!

Is this where to post our mechanics ideas and reviews, or is there a separate forum for that?

Re: Regina RPG?
Post Re: Regina RPG?
by Allan Dotson on Thursday, 02.September 2010

Hello!

I've written a few RPGs, self-published and distributed on a small scale.

"Sweet Dreams" is a deep, crunchy game of romance, horror, and espionage in high school. There are a few copies out there in the world being played.

"The Big Night" is a very simple game for young children, about magical creatures helping Santa Claus deliver presents at Christmas. It's available at Regina game stores, and as a PDF, and I run sessions of it as part of a city program in December.

"Fingerprints" is a narrative style game of superbeings. It's available as a PDF, and I sometimes run it at FRAG conventions.

"Spectrum" is my latest project, a time-travel role-paying-game, still in playtesting. I hope to have it available as a book and PDF sometime in 2011. This is the one I ran at the August game day.

I'm very interested in reaching a wider audience for all of these games, Calvin, and I'm interested in learning more about publishing and distribution. Your line of books sounds really exciting! Are they graphic novels or text novels?
