The Fourth Annual Flatland Fantasy
Game Fair and Convention
April 25, 26, and 27, 2008

Schedule of Events

Welcome to Flatland Fantasy IV -- the premiere Game Fair and Convention in southern Saskatchewan.  Say goodbye to Spring with a weekend of gaming and comaraderie at the end of April.  You'll get to play an enormous amount of games, from miniatures and role-playing to board games of all types.  There will be a few tournaments and a couple of LARPs tossed in for good measure.

Game in a completely relaxed and open environment.  Run a demonstration of your favourite game or play something you've never seen before... there should be something for everyone.

We hope that there will be a lot more events that what are listed below... there are always last minute additions and changes.

So... come out, enjoy yourself and try something new.  If you are normally a role-player... try some of the newer board games, you’ll be surprised.  If you are a board gamer, sit down with some miniatures.  There’s always something new to try out... and that is what makes our gaming hobby unique.

You can find a colour-coded schedule (in .pdf format) ready for download here,. It will be updated daily until the event cut-off on Saturday, April 12 (when the Convention Programme goes to the printers).   It includes the entire Schedule of Events which follows in an easy to read one page format.

Some of the tournaments, especially the tabletop gaming events, require people to provide their own copy of a game, or their own set of miniatures.  Some games will be provided, but to guarantee a spot in a specific time slot,  with no waiting, please bring your own copy, the organisers thank-you in advance.

Please note that even though the Time Slots are portioned for four hours, they may end sooner at the discretion of the referee involved.  This will allow tables to be cleared and readied for the events to be run in the following Time Slot.

The following events are set.  More scheduled games will be added as qualified referees are found, so check back often.

(Last updated Monday, April 21)

A sampler of lighter "kid oriented" board games will be played throughout the weekend, especially Saturday as part of the Rio Grande Riot.  Although many of the games appear to be simple they can be enjoyed by participants of all ages.  Make sure that you bring your kids.

"Testing… Testing… Greetings my local cousins, the lost children of two worlds. Given what I have seen, I suspect that this may be the first time that any of you have encountered a Radio Free Fae transmission, and Blue tuning. As such, I suspect that you are scared, alone and vulnerable, and this is truer than you think. We cannot stay like this: I can hear it in the pulse of fate, in the story that drives our changed reality, the Wyrd. It says that our moment is now, that a decision must be made. The destiny of this city, be it to be glorious freehold or eternal wasteland will lie in our hands. I call us all out to meet this situation. Meet me April 25, and have a say in this. Or be a victim of the fate decided. The choice is yours. I'll be in touch."

Phoenix Agenda LARP - "Damage Control" (8:00pm start)

The year is 2047, and it is an age of technological marvels: wireless computing, bionic prostheses, and genetic engineering. It is also a time of social decay. Nations fragment and collapse, corporations plow on heedless of the cost, and joe.login immerses himself in his personal obsessions, blind to all else. And in the shadows, a war of secrets and silenced pistols is waged, with the fate of the world as the prize.

This is the world of The Phoenix Agenda, a new game of espionage and action. The Phoenix Agenda uses the new, locally-developed Exemplar System, which gives power to a character's drives and goals to shape the setting.

Station Archimedes-L5001, a high-tech factory in space, has experienced a mysterious and catastrophic failure. A damage control team from the Quito Skyhook has been sent, their mission rescue, repair and investigation. But the secret at the heart of this crisis may be more than they bargained for...

Take the role of an orbital worker or engineer, or one of the brave damage control team. Everyone has secrets, and nobody is who they seem to be. Alliances will be made and broken, and a critical hidden truth may be revealed that could alter the course of humanity.

Damage Control is a live-action scenario for 5-25 players. New and experienced LARPers are welcome, though some experience with role-playing games is suggested. Characters will be provided. 10-sided dice are needed, though some will be available. Costuming and props are encouraged (data goggles, belt computers, jumpsuits, spy gadgets). For further details, or to reserve a character, contact Mike McCall (mike.r.mccall@sasktel.net).
